Certipedia Single ID and Parent ID: keep grouped certificates connected to the offered model

A supplier’s test-mark reference can point to an individual certificate or a group of certificates. That difference matters when a purchasing file needs evidence for a particular model. TÜV Rheinland’s Certipedia explanation describes Single IDs and Parent IDs, giving a buyer a reason to ask for the exact relationship instead of treating a grouped reference as a universal product approval.

The issuer distinguishes the identifiers

The TÜV Rheinland explanation, read on 3 October 2026, says a test-mark certificate receives a unique Single ID. Under specified conditions, multiple certificates can be clustered under a Parent ID. It also explains that an entry can show a product name, model and certificate excerpt. These are descriptions of the issuer’s system, not results from an actual certificate query. No seller’s mark or product was authenticated here.

Follow the group to the product on the quote

Ask the supplier which certificate within the reference supports the offered model and where the relevant scope is shown. Preserve the exact model spelling, ID and document reference. A broad parent grouping should not be rewritten as approval for every similarly named product. If a quotation contains several variants, record the evidence relationship for each rather than making one mark cover all lines by assumption.

For a hypothetical purchasing comparison, one seller could provide a grouped ID while another gives a single-certificate reference. The buyer should first determine what each reference covers. The format alone does not make one supplier superior, and neither tells the buyer whether stock exists. This editorial example is not an account of real certificates or a ranking of testing providers.

Keep the holder and the seller distinct

The company associated with a certificate is not automatically the contracting seller on the quote. Ask how the seller’s offered item connects to the certificate holder and named model. Retain that answer without turning it into a general authorization claim. A buyer may need further supply-chain or commercial evidence; the certification reference does not establish custody, delivery performance or the seller’s financial standing.

Leave technical and usage questions for review

When an exact entry is available, retain its date and scope for the responsible technical reviewer. Do not infer compliance with every destination’s rules from a grouped mark, and do not use a promotional badge as installation guidance. Any unresolved ID or model relationship remains an actual evidence hold. The practical judgement is to treat the Parent ID as an organizing reference and the offered model as the procurement object. Connecting them explicitly makes the file easier to review while preserving the issuer’s real boundaries and avoiding a fictitious product certification or supplier rating.
